What Is CO₂ Laser Cutting?
CO₂ laser cutting uses a high-powered infrared beam to melt and vaporise acrylic along a programmed path. The result is a flame-polished, optically clear edge — no sanding or polishing required. At Acrylic Masters, our machines operate at up to 150W, enabling cuts through acrylic up to 25mm thick.
✅ Pro tip: Cast acrylic always produces a better edge finish than extruded acrylic when laser cut. If edge clarity matters for your project, always specify cast.
What Materials Can Be Laser Cut?
Our laser systems cut a wide range of materials:
- Acrylic (PMMA) — cast and extruded, 1mm to 25mm
- MDF and plywood — up to 18mm
- Polycarbonate — up to 10mm (note: edges are frosted, not clear)
- PVC foam board — up to 10mm
- Leather, fabric and felt — for signage and décor applications
File Formats We Accept
For best results, provide vector files: DXF, DWG, AI (Adobe Illustrator), PDF (vector), EPS. Raster formats (JPEG, PNG) can be used for engraving only — not cutting. All lines to be cut must be set to 0.001pt stroke width (hairline).
Tolerances and Precision
Our CNC laser systems achieve a positional accuracy of ±0.1mm, with a kerf (cutting width) of approximately 0.2–0.3mm depending on material thickness. For interlocking parts or tight-fit assemblies, provide your DXF with the kerf compensation already applied, or let our team do it.
